چکیده

An analysis of the life cycle shallow marine cumulus clouds is presented based on geostationary observations by Spinning Enhanced Visible and InfraRed Imager aboard Meteosat Second Generation (MSG-SEVIRI). Trajectories about 250,000 individual have been derived applying Particle Image Velocimetry to Satellite Application Facility Climate Monitoring CLoud property dAtAset using SEVIRI for a region in trade wind zone centered around Canary Islands August 2015. The temporal evolution physical properties these allows characterize cloud development infer distribution time extent. In data set, follows double power law with most existing scale tens minutes. properties, available during daytime, are analyzed along tracks. Relative series extent, water path, droplet effective radius at top, optical thickness, number concentration two ranges reveal conditions that can be attributed long-lasting clouds. Clouds certain horizontal extent top height as well show longer times if they optically more dense, i.e., higher concentration. Furthermore, investigation content liquid regarding shows small short-living significantly contribute radiative effects.

Using Appearance and Motion of Clouds from Geostationary Satellite Images to Rain Rate Estimation and Prediction

Satellite imagery can provide potential solution to the monitoring of large-scale systems e.g. supercell thunderstorms, depressions, cyclones, or mesoscale convective complex, particularly those in remote areas where there are sparse numbers of weather stations. The movement and patterns of clouds, observed from satellite images, can be used to indicate the instability of the weather [1]. Moreo...

Wind Estimation from Geostationary-satellite Pictures

The motion of properly selected clouds derived from photographs taken by the geostationary Advanced Technology Satellites provides estimates of the wind a t cloud level. A large number of lowand high-cloud motions near rawin stations are compared to the balloon-derived winds to determine the levels at which these wind estimates might be used for map analyses and to assess their accuracy a t tho...

Homogeneity Analysis of the CM SAF Surface Solar Irradiance Dataset Derived from Geostationary Satellite Observations

A satellite-based climate record of monthly mean surface solar irradiance (SIS) is investigated with regard to possible inhomogeneities in time. The data record is provided by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring (CM SAF) for the period of 1983 to 2005, covering a disk area between ±70◦ in lat...

Characterizing tropical overshooting deep convection from joint analysis of CloudSat and geostationary satellite observations

[1] Tropical overshooting deep convection (ODC) plays an important role in affecting the heat and constituent budgets of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. This study investigates the properties and behaviors of such intense deep convection using a combination of CloudSat observations and geostationary satellite data. Our study approaches the subject from two unique perspectives: fir...
